Community Radio

Last modified: June 4, 2009 - 12:27 AM

Yass Valley's Community FM Radio Station, Yassfm 100.3 FM plays a vital role in the Local Government Area, providing news and local information to residents.

In times of emergencies, such as floods and fires, the station becomes the official Council outlet for dissemination of the latest information. In the event of a major incident, this could involve details about evacuations, road closures and any other significant threats to households.

All residents are urged to have a battery operated radio as part of any emergency kit so they can access Yassfm 100.3 on the FM band should an incident occur. The local emergency services including, the State Emergency Service, Police, Fire and Ambulance, can access this radio station to communicate vital information to the residents in the Yass Valley Local Government Area.

The station operates 7 days a week between the hours of 7.00 am and 9.00 pm, providing programs of general interest to residents including a news service on the hour as well as sport and other valuable community information.

Yass FM 100.3 is run by trained volunteers and provides radio programs that reflect the needs of residents who also have the opportunity to participate. The station welcomes new volunteers, particularly those with previous radio experience whether it be in broadcasting, program production, journalism or any other relevant field. Training is provided as required. All enquiries should be directed to the station manager.

Council, business and community groups help fund the station and local businesses can promote their activities through attractive "on air" sponsorship packages.
