Library Chit Chat - 18 May 2009

Last modified: May 18, 2009 - 11:02 AM

Biggest Morning Tea

Yass Library is supporting this year's Biggest Morning Tea.  On Thursday 28 May drop into the Library where the Library Staff will happily make you a cup of tea for a gold coin donation.  Funds raised contribute to cancer research, support, education and awareness initiatives.

While you are at the Library you can also take home a supply of books, magazines, music CDs or DVDs.

Medical Databases

The Southern Tablelands Regional Library subscribe to two medical databases that you are able to access either from our computers in the Library or from home using your Library card.  Just go to our website www.strl.nsw.gov.au and click on the link ‘online databases'.  The two databases are RealTime Health and Consumer Health Connect.

RealTime Health

The RealTime Health 'Speaking From Experience' video resource offers hundreds of patient and carer stories on a range of conditions.  These first-hand accounts cover the day to day challenges others have faced, and give insights into the coping strategies they have used.

If you have been diagnosed with an illness, or if you are a carer or friend of someone recently diagnosed, personal stories can inform and reassure.  They can help you understand what to expect and how others have coped.

Consumer Health Connect

Consumer Health Complete (CHC) is a comprehensive resource for consumer-oriented health content.  It is designed to support the information needs of patients, and to foster an overall understanding of health-related topics.

This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children's health, men & women's health, etc.

Remember, information provided in these databases should not be viewed as a means for self-diagnosis or a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
