Bush Fire Danger Period ExtendedLast modified: March 30, 2009 - 9:22 AM
Southern Tablelands ZoneContinuing dry weather conditions have caused the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to extend the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) in Southern Tablelands Zone. This means fire permits are still required in Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan and Yass Valley local government areas. ``The BFDP generally ends on 31 March and some areas in NSW will finish on this date,’’ said Peter Dyce Community Education Officer Southern Tablelands Zone. ``Southern Tablelands Zone has extended until 30 April 2009. Any person wishing to light a fire in the area continues to require a permit." ``We can still expect days where weather conditions are difficult and may cause burns to get out of control. To ensure fire authorities are fully aware of all burning activities, fire permits remain in force." ``This decision has not been made lightly, and has involved consultation with the Bush Fire Management Committee and the Rural Fire Brigade captains from the area." ``The regulations require people to notify neighbouring land owners, land management authorities and fire authorities 24 hours prior to burning." ``Land owners need to take appropriate action to ensure containment and control of fire so it doesn’t escape and cause damage." ``Permits are free and can be obtained from your local permit issuing officer or Fire Control Centre,’’ said Peter Dyce Community Education Officer.
