Films and Fun Successful for YassLast modified: November 18, 2008 - 9:05 AM
Country Energy’s Short Film Festival 2008 was off to a splendid start last Friday night with lots of fun, food and entertainment down at Riverbank Park. Coffee, Rotary BBQ, C & J Fun Foods, flashy flashing wines glasses, glowsticks, the dulcet tones of Mr Johnny Huckle as well as lots and lots of wonderful short films made for a wonderful evening and night. Early afternoon storms gave way to a magic evening, and as the crowd ambled into Riverbank Park, Mr Johnny Huckle, hit the stage with his one man band. Two hours later and the crowd were grossed by the music of the highly talented man. His repertoire of original music included so many sound effects that the audience could have been forgiven for assuming there was a full orchestra behind him. His local popularity endorsed in fact, with loyal fans turning up early enough to catch the sound check! In the Bin proper followed from Johnny with usual high standard of films we have come to expect. After interval the Yass Valley Student films were screened to much delight and cheering from the crowd, and from the talent on display it quite evident that a number of Yass students are more than equipped to go onto successful careers in the film industry. Up the back of the ground, Queanbeyan Artist Dennis Mortimer entertained over a dozen youngsters for hours making “art” from recycled materials, much to the amusement of relieved parents. Next stop Murrumbateman next Saturday, 22 November and the fun will start at 11am in the grounds of the Old School House. In the evening, at dusk, The St Kilda Film Festival will see fifteen of the best short films from their selection go on show at the Murrumbateman Rec Ground. The films included in the two hour program include comedy, drama, documentaries, digital art as well as animation. The full evening event will commence at about 6.00 with music, food, fun and wine, so don’t miss your chance to watch great films and go into the draw to win $500 worth of electricity some time in the next 12 months – all care of Country Energy.
