Bushfire Danger Period Revoked - Southern Tablelands ZoneLast modified: September 29, 2008 - 9:41 AM
NSW Rural Fire Service Southern Tablelands Zone has REVOKED the start to the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) in the Yass Valley local Government area until 1st November 2008. ``As temperatures get warmer we also ask people to be careful when using fire. The current conditions across most of NSW mean that fires are more likely to develop into bush fires, threaten life, property and the environment. During a Total Fire Ban however, no fires of any kind may be lit. ``It is an offence to allow a fire to escape from your property and it is your responsibility to ensure that fires are not left unattended. ``We strongly advise residents to contact their local brigade and use their expertise to assist in carrying out safe and successful hazard reductions. ``If the fire does escape, it is essential that the landowner call Triple Zero (000) immediately so that emergency services can respond accordingly and minimise the damage," said Peter Dyce Community Education Safety Officer. The RFS has a number of publications available to residents providing information on: alternatives to burning, planning and preparation for a Hazard Reduction and applying for a Hazard Reduction certificate and fire permit.
