Spring Fling

What beautiful weather we are having at the moment – it is a definite reminder that Spring is here! I am sure you all want to get out into your gardens or maybe start work on those jobs that you have been putting off since Winter set in. The Yass Library has some great books to help you with this, including:

Creating your eco-friendly garden by Mary Horsfall

This book shows people how to create an eco-friendly garden from scratch or by redeveloping an existing garden. It is practical, simply written and based on the author's own first-hand experience and the wealth of knowledge amassed during the course of her job at Grass Roots, Australia's most popular self-sufficiency magazine.

Rain gardens: managing water sustainably in the garden and designed landscape by Nigel Dunnett and Andy Clayden.

This book provides a unique directory of plants indicating their suitability for different rain garden situations. Rain gardens are good for wildlife, encourage biodiversity provide visual and sensory pleasure and, above all, are sustainable in a changing climate.

The truth about organic gardening: benefits, drawbacks, and the bottom line by Jeff Gillman

This book covers organic basics including: What is organic gardening? How organic is organic enough? It also includes the history of organic growing and understanding pesticides.

Fix it before it breaks by Terry Kennedy

Provided in this book is a seasonal checklist guide to home maintenance. Now you don’t wait until something is broken before you fix it!

Grafting and budding: a practical guide for fruit and nut trees and ornamentals by J. Lewis

This book is an updated and expanded version of Grafting and Budding Fruit and Nut Trees and now includes the grafting of ornamental plants. It is a comprehensive and clearly written, practical guide to all of the grafting and budding techniques the professional and home gardener is likely to need. This new edition now includes Australian natives eucalypts, banksias, hakeas and grevilleas; cacti; conifers; general deciduous ornamentals; black passionfruit, roses and tomatoes.
