September 1st to 7th is National Literacy and Numeracy Week, which also encompasses Indigenous Literacy Day on September 3rd. Southern Tablelands Regional Library considers Adult Literacy to be very important and has developed an impressive Literacy program called Literacy for Life @ Your Library. The Literacy for Life @ Your Library Collection consists of modern and interesting books and audio material, often matched so that even non-readers can follow the written text while they listen to the narrated story. A large range of novels and graphic novels have also been selected that have compelling stories, real life experiences and socially relevant contexts for young and adult readers alike. Each collection has a set of reference materials such as dictionaries, books on grammar, writing, spelling and other aspects of English usage. To access, and learn more about the program, borrowers should log onto www.readwritestrl.com.au where, in addition to other resources, there is a downloadable pamphlet that will help those that are interested to access this excellent collection. To celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy Week Southern Tablelands Regional Library will be running courses on job application literacy. These presentations will inform participants about what employers are looking for in job applications and how to write an application that meets those expectations. This training will be held at Goulburn Library on Tuesday 2nd September at 1:30 pm, and at Yass Library on Thursday 4th September at 1:30 pm. Places will be strictly limited so please advise interested people to get their names down fast. Bookings for the Yass Library training can be made by calling 6226 1305.
