Library Chit Chat - 18 AugustLast modified: August 18, 2008 - 12:23 AM
Media Release - 60/2008 A is for Apron I recently bought a new book for the Library called A is for Apron by Nathalie Mornu. It is a gorgeous book that includes 25 patterns for making your own apron. This is the third book for author, Nathalie Mornu. Nathalie learned how to sew garments from her aunt, a seamstress in a tiny couture shop in the 50's. Besides stitching for pleasure, Nathalie has created costumes for community theatre and designed curtains, handbags and embellished clothing. I didn't realise that there were so many different kinds of aprons including bib aprons (hangs from the neck by straps and connects to a 'bib'), half or waist aprons (have no bib, and tie around the waist), cobbler aprons (covers both the front and back of the upper body) and smocks (loose, coat-like garments). The apron has been totally transformed - no longer is it used exclusively to protect clothes from cooking spills, but is now considered a chic fashion accessory. A is for Apron gives a brief history of aprons, photos of vintage aprons, tips on mixing and matching fabrics with flair and of course, simple instructions on how to make your own apron. The great thing about making an apron is that unlike stitching pants or a shirt, you don't have to worry about a fit - it is the perfect project for a beginner and the projects in this book are quick and easy to complete. All I know is that after reading this book I need to go and buy some pretty fabric so that I can make my own trendy apron. I also now know what I am going to give my sisters for Christmas this year! CWA - Poster Competition The CWA - Yass Branch, recently held its annual Poster/Project Competition. Each year the CWA choose a country of study and this year the Country was Mexico. Local primary school students were invited to enter the competition and the results were fantastic. It is always with great pleasure that I exhibit the winning entries at the Yass Library. I know that some of the winning entries used information that they had found at the Library to answer the questions about Mexico. It is obvious that a lot of time and effort has gone into these projects, so why not come down to the Yass Library and have a look? The Yass Library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, Thursday 9.30 am to 7.00 pm and Saturday 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. The Murrumbateman Library is open Saturday 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. Contact details |
