Change to Council MeetingsLast modified: June 4, 2008 - 11:12 AM
Over the last 8 years, Yass Valley Council has been meeting on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month exceeding the requirements of Local Government Act 1993 which requires Council to meet at least 10 times each year, each time in a different month. “Council staff spend numerous hours compiling business papers for Council and PPR (Policy, Planning and Review) Meetings.” Mayor Nic Carmody said “Combined with the preparation and in some cases the travel involved for Councillors, it is proposed that Yass Valley Council trial meeting only once each month.” “We have had only one meeting in December and January each year and this practice appears to have limited negative impact,” he said, “Although we may consider an ‘extra’ meeting quarterly to deal with any special issues or to coincide with a Water Committee meeting.” As the Local Government Elections will be held in September, Council will trial holding one meeting per month until then. The dates for the meetings over this trial period are:
