This Committee has been established under the State Emergency Management Act, 1989 to ensure Yass Valley has a system in place to cope with emergencies. Mr Kerry McMurray, General Manager of Yass Valley Council said “The role of the Yass Valley Local Emergency Management Committee is to develop, maintain and coordinate comprehensive all agency emergency management arrangements for communities within the Yass Valley Local Government Area and to provide assistance and advice to the District Emergency Management Committee”. The Local Emergency Management Committee has prepared the Yass Valley Local Disaster Plan which identifies, evaluates and monitors hazards and threats to life and property and where appropriate recommends specific hazard management guidelines. Funding of $32,950 was provided by the Commonwealth Government, through the AttorneyGeneral’sDepartment and Emergency Management Australia to assist in the fit out of the new Emergency Operations Centre.
