Yass Valley Festival

Last modified: October 8, 2007 - 3:09 PM

As one of country NSW’s longest running Festivals, the Yass Valley Festival has gained a reputation for outstanding contemporary country fun, and that is exactly what the audience and participants will get from the 2007 Festival. On Friday 16 November at dusk, down in Riverbank Park, 15 award winning Aussie Short Films will be screened as part of the InTheBin Australian Short Film Festival.  At the same time, 5 films shot by local students, will also be shown, as part of a youth education program.  The evening offers live Jazz, good food, entertainment galore and the chance to sip wine under a dusky starlit night for the start of a great weekend.   On Saturday 17 November the Festival activities will start early with a Poet’s Breakfast, a talent quest, live music from internally renowned blues group Hazy Gates and over 50 market stalls offering a wide range of goods. At 12 noon – the Country Energy Yass Valley Festival Street Parade heads down the main street to Riverbank Park and the Festival’s Opening Ceremony.    Clowns, live music, antique cars, skateboard displays, Aboriginal dancing and a didgeridoo workshop will greet the parade.  Other attractions include a children’s wizard, the annual fishing competition, Latin American dance music plus loads and loads of interactive activities for children of all ages.   The entertainment line-up for this year’s festival is wonderfully diverse, with something for everyone.   So come on down to the Yass Valley Festival for a day of family fun and maybe slip in a visit to one of the nearby wineries for that totally relaxing “get away” weekend for all members of your family.   For more information on the parade or markets, the events and activities,  call Yass Valley’s Visitor Information Centre on 1300 886 014.
