Calling Potential Volunteer Drivers
Last modified: May 8, 2007 - 11:00 AM
The Yass Home Living Support Service needs to recruit some new volunteer drivers in order to meet the current demand for transport from clients. Being a volunteer driver is very rewarding, evidenced by the fact that most of our volunteers remain with the service for many years. However at the present time we have quite a number of volunteers away on holidays, hence our need to recruit some new volunteers.
Clients of the service are elderly or disabled people living in their own homes who, without access to basic support services such as transport, may be at risk of going into residential care. Many of the transport requests are to attend specialist medical appointments, in either Canberra, Goulburn or occasionally Queanbeyan.
Potential volunteers need to have a current drivers licence with a good driving record, reasonably good health and a genuine interest in assisting our client group. Training and support are provided, and any out-of-pocket expenses that are incurred in the course of undertaking volunteer tasks for the service are fully reimbursed. Volunteers are able to nominate the days/times of being available to assist the service.
So if you have a bit of spare time and feel that you would like to assist your community in this way the service would love to hear from you. We are located at the Goodradigbee Centre in Yass, corner of Rossi & Dutton Streets. Phone number 6226 4555.
