Are you Passionate about Your Community?Last modified: March 27, 2007 - 3:00 PM
The Capital Region Area Consultative Committee (ACC) is seeking expressions of interest from potential new members. “We are looking for people who are passionate about their community and willing to volunteer their time to provide valuable and independent advice on issues and opportunities in our region, said Chair David Malloch. “Members are sought from a variety of backgrounds, such as business, education, local government, industry, community and environmental organisations. Young people are very much encouraged to apply,” Mr Malloch said. The Capital Region ACC services the NSW local government areas of Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley, Palerang and Queanbeyan City along with the ACT. We are one of 56 community-based, non-profit ACCs in Australia providing a vital local link to the Australian Government on local, social and economic issues. We are the primary point of contact in the Capital Region for the Australian Government’s Regional Partnerships program which funds projects with strong community benefits (see attached project list). The ACC has just launched the Mobile Small Business Country Information Service in the Capital Region and Southern Highlands (funded under AusIndustry’s Small Business Field Officer Program). The service offers on-site visits to small and home-based businesses to provide general advice and information about government and other programs and services and is developing a workshop program. Current Capital Region ACC members include ACT businessman David Malloch, Goulburn-based district TAFE manager Craig Fowler, Yass Valley Council Community Development Manager Cathy Campbell, former federal government departmental secretary Charles Halton, Chief Executive of Northside Community Service Stephen Larcombe, retired high school principal Daryl Evans of Queanbeyan, Braidwood gallery owner Jill McLeod and Terry Williams of the Ngunnawal Centre at the University of Canberra. The Capital Region ACC is seeking to fill a number of positions on the Committee in the next two months. For further information visit www.cr-acc.asn.au or contact us on (02) 6162 4400.
