Australian Citizenship

Becoming an Australian citizen.
Australian Citizenship Day is celebrated annually on 17 September, and citizenship and affirmation ceremonies will be held across Australia. The Commonwealth Government, on behalf of the Australian community invites all those eligible in the community to apply for Australian Citizenship. Becoming an Australian citizen involves a serious commitment but the process is relatively simple. To get an application kit:
- Call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880 to be mailed an application kit.
- Download the kit contents from the Citizenship website.
- Call into a Department of Immigration and Multicultural abnd Indigenous Affairs Office in your capital city to pick up a kit.
- Application forms are also available from selected Australia Post outlets in rural and regional areas.
Once applications are approved, you will be asked to attend a Citizenship ceremony held by your local government council. Any information you require can be obtained by calling the information line 131 880.
